Frequently Asked Questions

What type of firm is Caldwell Ritchie Berry?

We are an all-Ireland law firm that specialises in construction, infrastructure and procurement law.  The firm is regulated by the Law Society of Northern Ireland.   We are also registered with and authorised by the Law Society of Ireland.  In addition, a number of our solicitors are qualified in England and Wales.

What makes us unique?

Caldwell Ritchie Berry was launched to meet the ever changing requirements of the construction and infrastructure sector.  Having spent many years working within the industry, the directors became acutely aware of the need for an alternative provider of construction law services within the market.  Caldwell Ritchie Berry is the genesis of that commercial realisation.  Much in the same way construction clients engage with architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, we see ourselves as being in the same category.  We are also a member of that professional team in relation to any given project.

We can advise on construction matters across the UK and Ireland, as well as internationally.  This effectively means that wherever our clients go, we have the capability to follow.

How long have you been in business?

Caldwell Ritchie Berry was formerly known as Caldwell Solicitors.  The firm was originally established by Kenny Caldwell in 2017 and (together with Jamie Ritchie and Stefan Berry) the firm was re-launched in 2025 as Caldwell Ritchie Berry.  The firm has a track record of assisting construction, procurement and energy clients since 2017.

Do you work exclusively private sector or public sector?

We work with both private and public sector clients.  As a matter of fact, we find that operating both sides of this spectrum is essential to maintaining a complete view of the sector.

Is there anywhere I could get an independent view of whether to engage you or not?

Yes, we are ranked in Chambers and Legal 500 for Construction.  These are among the leading legal ranking and directories agencies in the world.  This includes details of our firm’s strengths and type of work we are involved with.

We treat client confidentiality very seriously and only in limited circumstances do we directly reveal client information (usually where it is a major project and there is something to jointly celebrate).  Occasionally we can provide the name of referees with our client’s express permission.

How do I prepare for a meeting? What will it cost?

The first introductory meeting or call is usually free.  We take our time to get a sense from you of what the issues are on the project.  There is no set formula for these meetings, but usually a high level chronological summary of the project and synopsis of problems encountered can help us in mapping out the direction of travel and / or recommended next steps.  We tend to prefer to receive documents in digital format as this is the most common means by which construction disputes are dealt with.
