Jamie is a Director at Caldwell Ritchie Berry.
He previously worked for a leading Irish law firm in Dublin, where he served as Partner and Head of Projects and Construction. Jamie started his career with a construction and procurement consultancy before completing his training with a commercial law firm in Belfast. He is a dual qualified Irish and Northern Irish solicitor, meaning that he can represent clients on an all-island basis. Additionally, he is experienced in assisting domestic clients in relation to projects across mainland UK and internationally.
Jamie has universal capability in advising on all legal aspects of project delivery, from procurement and contract drafting through to dispute resolution. This includes acting on behalf of clients at every level of the contractual matrix, including project sponsors, funders, developers, employers, sureties, contractors, specialist suppliers and consultants.
In non-contentious matters, Jamie acts for clients from across a multitude of sectors in relation to a wide variety of asset classes and infrastructure, such as sub-sea telecoms, transport (rail and roads), energy (particularly offshore renewables), manufacturing, healthcare, insurance and education. His work has encompassed numerous contractual structures and procurement models, including design and build, traditional format, EPCM and development agreements. He is also a specialist in all of the main standard form construction contracts utilised within the Irish and UK markets, including RIAI, Public Works, NEC, JCT and FIDIC as well as more bespoke contracts.
In contentious matters, Jamie has represented both public and private sector clients in a diverse range of construction, procurement and energy related disputes. He leads a multi-disciplinary team that regularly act for clients in arbitration, adjudication, conciliation, and mediation. This has included acting in multimillion euro breach of contract claims, insurance and performance bond disputes and also negotiating final account settlements on behalf of employers and contractors alike.
His role requires a deep understanding of the legal, technical, and commercial dynamics underpinning major infrastructure and development projects, as well as the ability to coordinate across all relevant practice areas to deliver effective solutions for clients.
